Levi
10-15 years is correct for last remaining relative visas. I am also somewhat interested in this visa subclass (for my mother).
Parley
Why does it take so long ?
flybyknight
sorry to drag the thread off a little, but is this the same as a non contributory parent visa?
Guest Guest26110
sorry to drag the thread off a little, but is this the same as a non contributory parent visa? Are you allowed to go to Australia and apply onshore for a bridging visa until the last remaining relative or parent visa is granted??
flybyknight
i know you can with a non contrib' thats why i wondered if they were one in the same, or is there a visa i dont know about. we plan for my in laws to come over in a few years so i try to keep on top of this subject.
Levi
Why does it take so long ? It takes so long - as far as I know - because it's not a priority for Australia. Skilled migrants are needed, and not 'last remaining relatives', which are possibly old people.

Parents cannot be sponsored for the last remaining relative visa by their children. They need the parent visa.
