  1. I think you have missed my point. Yes, the department have approved an intake. The minister, I can assure will remain at arms length. I am not saying migration is wrong or saying such a petition is wrong in principle. But that migration in Australia, like many other countries is now such a huge hot potato, getting a politician to say they need to be committing resources to it would be impossible. At the moment in Australia, you have Hanson who has gained a lot of ground politically calling for a total ban on migration. You have states such as WA with climbing unemployment but still taking a lot of migrants. So, getting any politician to say, at a time when cuts are being made to resources, "We need to spend more money bringing in more migrants" would be a career ending statement.
  2. Yes, they prefer skilled people, but it isn't as simple as that. For example, I remember the unions organising massive protests at airports only a few years ago against migrant workers working FIFO. I was one of said migrants and was very happy to go toe to toe and point out that I was a geoscientist whose team of mainly migrants had just discovered the Tropicana gold deposit which would not have been found without us and would now employ 2000 Australians. But they didn't care. They just see jobs for individuals and with some justification. Unemployment in a number of areas is getting an issue.
  3. If you look at our partner parts of the forum, one is for NAB and you can contact them live on the forum and ask questions.
  4. A petition for what and to whom? Do remember that immigration is a political hot potato at the moment and a huge amount - very likely a majority of Australians would like to see much bigger cuts to migration as a minimum. At a time when money for services is at a premium such as health, police and others, a petition to get more cash to speed up migrants visas would be unpopular with voters to say the least.
  5. You need to speak to a specialist migration agent urgently. George Lombard is a well known expert in visas with medical complications. The department look at what costs any health issue will cost
  6. Correct. If you are worried about things, then why not get a proffessional to look through it before you hot apply. There are a number of excellent registered migration agents on the forum. Personally, I always recomend using an agent - have had three visas and gained citizenship and yes, it is easy to make an error that results in refusal. An agent I know has recently dealt with a case of a doctor who made an error on a date and was refused. Not only is it bye bye fee, but potentially even a bar from reapplying
  7. You need to check your occupation is still eligible for a 189 after the changes yesterday.
  8. These are extremely complex visas and you should take proffessional advice from a registered migration. Alan who has posted above is well known for expertise in these and his contact details are in his signiture.
  9. Please be aware that new occupations lists were released this morning and there are now lists specific to visas. So, different lists for different visas
  10. No, you would not get a refund for a refusal. You just need to make sure you have everything correct such as skills assessment, points are correct, ILETS completed if required or claiming points for them and other aspects. Your children will not need police checks but will require medicals.
  11. I would not have done your medical yet. It does not speed things up and you run the risk of having to make a very quick dash to Australia or even having to re do it. There are delays across immigration processing at the moment, also, some occupations with capped limits can see substantial delays. If you log into the immi site, it will tell you if a case officer has been appointed yet
  12. I have moved your post to its own thread in migration chat as it will get a better response there.
  13. You are also better buying there as bed sizes are slightly different
  14. Yep, one of the mods You can try, but the staff in the office are basically clerical / customer services. From my experience they wont be able to tell you very much.
  15. The immi office will not have your case officer. So, they wont be able to tell you anything. Waiting a matter of weeks is not a long time. Particularly at the moment
  16. I would recomend he has a chat with a specialist migration agent such as George Lombard.
  17. I would consult a specialist agent such as George Lombard
  18. No, the case officer will contact you when it is time to do them. Some people do them early, but there is no real point as it doesn't result in faster processing and runs the risk of them expiring and needing to be done again. Also, it cuts the length of time to make the first entry as you have to make the first entry after visas are granted within 12 months of the police or medical check, which ever is earlier.
  19. WA regulations apply across WA not just Perth. They are state wide.
  20. Health and education are immediately available. However, you would need to pass the habitually resident test to get social security benefits. This normally means be resident for three months.
  21. If you want to ask an agent you would be best to start a thread in the ask an agent section.
  22. You would be surprised at what a good agent does and also surprised at how easy it is to get a rejection. I know an agent currently helping someone who has had a rejection after making a small mistake on the form - just an incorrect date. The rejection also means loss of the fee.
