  1. I love your idea of a Perth utopia Paul, but I do visit once a year. Perth drivers in general are awful and uncooperative.
  2. It would be nigh on impossible to thank someone for letting you into a lane in Perth.
  3. So Australians are rude? Do you wave to thank the other drivers at stop traffic lights? Roundabouts? Where will it end? Do the drivers wave back? Do you wave at them to thank them for waving? It's like thank you cards for kids present on birthdays. They already said thank you for Christ sake. It's not manners it's protocol.
  4. Winchester is nice, Bournemouth if you want a sandy beach. I'd avoid Southampton and Portsmouth and anywhere east of Eastbourne.
  5. When my youngest was in hospital we ate m&s ready meals. They are not bad.
  6. English chocolate would be liquid in Australia. Always assumed that accounted for the difference. Try putting Australian chocolate in the fridge. Tastes better cold.
  7. I've never understood thanking people at zebra crossings. Thanks for not breaking the law and killing me? Really don't understand that. If someone does you a favour, sure. But just for doing what they are supposed to? Don't get it.
  8. Actually it's not that bad. It's real estate market is rising, which is unusual at the moment in Australia. City for city I would prefer Perth, but Adelaide is closer to civilization, (the east). Both have their pros and cons. Perth's beaches are pretty good, and beach property is affordable there even with the current dreadful exchange rate. I would back the one where you can get a job. If you're husband works on houses, Adelaide may be a better bet as Perth is in a slump.
  9. Used to see heaps on the roads when cycling. They like the warmth of the tarmac. Never caused any trouble.
  10. I've seen that happening in public and private companies. It's basically poor financial structuring. Very inefficient. Poor planning doesn't help either. At my local school they built a new single story computer suite. After a year they were told they has to increase numbers, so they knocked down the computer suite and built a four storey building on it. Not exactly a great use of money. This I found interesting https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-47482587
  11. I think it's called sovereignty. They did the same thing with motor bike helmets.
  12. You don't think that was a politically motivated ofsted?
  13. A lot of Australian private schools aren't that great. But, if you live in a poorer area with a rubbish state school, then it can be a cheaper option than moving. Depending on how many kids you have.
  14. UK was like that pre GFC. Give it time...
  15. You would go back to the UK to be treated by the NHS. If you came from a country that doesn't have public health, like the USA, you should have thought about it before you left.
  16. Where are you posting from and what is your nationality Fran?
  17. All schools are suffering under the Tories austerity. Brexit will just make it worse.
  18. It's a pain. Wear a coat in the morning. Carry it home with you in the afternoon.
  19. Would you consider Canberra? I've a west coast person, but I imagine property is cheaper, schools will be better, and employment would be better than Sydney. It's not that far from Sydney. You could see family once a month.
  20. If you are going to move, now is the time to do it, as your kids are about to enter a critical education window. Are your kids academic? That may prove a big factor in your plans.

    UK Passports

I don't think anyone knows what will happen with a no deal brexit. Could be we all need new ones, as our current ones are EU passports. I guess we'll see. Fortunately my next holiday is booked for Cornwall.
  22. That's more an indication of the number of sick people you get exposure to, rather than the strength of your immune system.
  23. It was zero degrees this morning. There was a frost. It did get warmer, but it started cold.
