  1. I expect it may be quite a different experience to what you are used to. There are some old threads on Geraldton. Have a search to get a feel for the place.
  2. Where are you planning on moving to?
  3. In West Australia I'm pretty sure the rangers would jump on you pretty quickly if you were free camping near anywhere remotely populated. Even in some of the more desolate areas you might find a ranger. There are also a lot of restrictions and heavy fines depending on what you do and where you are. But there are heaps of free campsite dotted around the state.
  4. You might wanna get a hat. I'm the same, and the Aussie sun crisps the top of my head like bacon without my hat.
  5. I used to have a friend who lived in a tent for a while. It wasn't a huge saving. Is that photo actually you Wayne?
  6. Do you know when they will be released and what the proposed changes are?
  7. Two thoughts on this. One, it's nice to know that security is looking after us. Two, it's nice when their isn't the need for security. But Perth is growing up, and looks like a soft target.
  8. But wouldn't you lose all the stuff you bought from other stores if you did that?
  9. The UK does have historically low unemployment rates at the moment. Lower than Perth, which is not in recession, but is in a bit of a slow down. You could look at the hills areas if you wanted a bit of rural, or maybe even one of the towns near Perth.
  10. He dropped a wardrobe door on it and broke two toes before Christmas. Then developed a severe case of cellulitis. Google the images but not if you are eating. Then discovered he was allergic to penicillin. They did think he would lose the foot. But seems to be stabilizing now.
  11. I've checked, but they are all ok. Looks like we will have to put off that holiday in the sun. Seriously though, my brother in law is in hospital as his foot exploded, so my wife went and spent the night with her mother.
  12. Does that not worry you about the strength of your relationship? I wouldn't even contemplate something like that.
  13. The worst snake you will find in a toilet is a trouser snake. They needed to be treated with care.
  14. Most houses in Australia have two toilets. One for the snakes and one for people. Just make sure your kids use the correct one.
  15. Welcome to my world. Actually, my wife has now come round to the idea of living in Australia, and if the economic situation was different, with the pound being stronger, we would be looking at going there to retire. No easy answer really. But the UK isn't a hell hole at least. It has a lot of good aspects.
  16. Did you ask on here first? I think most would have advised against it.
  17. Don't quote me. But I believe under the partners visa, if you can show very strong links, children etc, then you can go straight to permanent residence. I remember researching it a few years ago. If that was the case, he may get it. But you aren't talking huge sums with jobseekers anyway. If you are that short of money, can you not delay and save? Or stay with family?
  18. Not necessarily. Have a read of http://guides.dss.gov.au/guide-social-security-law/4/6/3/80 And it may be worth giving them a call, as the timing of events may be important. If you delay the sale of the UK property for some time there may be tax implications. But with brexit it is unlikely that you will have currency or capital gains in the short term.
  19. There are large tax advantages when you pay into a UK pension. I'm pretty sure you won't get these if you pay into Oz super, so you should set up a new uk pension fund. Your employer would probably need to do that by law anyway. But you can set up your own if you are self employed. You should be able to over contribute to this fund if you wish. The only way it would be to your advantage to contribute to the Australian super would be to keep life insurance alive, but these may no longer be valid if you are not resident. Check out the small print, or even get a financial advisor to do so. Also, my Australian super I can manage online, so that is important.
  20. Depending on your budget, there are some very nice areas around west Perth. Most should have good schools. Wembley, jolimont, city beach, Churchlands, Wembley downs, mt Hawthorn are all affluent areas and should all have good schools. I guess the other alternative is home tutoring. Probably more expensive, and you don't get the advantages of social development from mixing with other children. Plus you would need to satisfy the authorities, but as it is only for six months there could be advantages, plus you won't be making friendships for your child that you know you will have to break.
  21. Where were you planning on living? Have you picked a suburb? You would struggle with private, as there are often long queues for the good ones. You may struggle with state depending on where you plan to live. School year is due to start soon in Perth. May be worth contacting some schools soon as you plans gel.
