What would u ship over from the uk if u left again?
Jon the Hat replied to Sea breeze's topic in Aussie Chat
I must admit I stating to think about how to get our stuff into a 20ft rather than a 40t container. We have a fair amount of nice stuff worth bringing, but you start to doubt things like Ikea sofas and mattresses, beds you don't like that much etc. Only makes sense though if we then spend the money on nice stuff we want long term on arrival. I'm not sure how much I am going to want to spend quality stuff in the first year or so, especially before we buy a house. -
Go for it! As they say better to regret things you have done than things you haven't!

It would be nice not to have to blow £15k on Business class :(. Once my house sale goes through I will be booking flights for September. probably with Qatar based on everyone#s comments.

Starting a new business which is better given the choice?
Jon the Hat replied to Pigeon's topic in Money & Finance
Surely you start the business where you intend to live? If you build something successful in the UK It will make it much harder to move in a few years. -
For a path to PR, would you go with the 190 or 820?
Jon the Hat replied to Arese's topic in Visa Chat
I would have thought partner Visa has to be easier assuming you meet the relationship requirements. You don't need skills assessment etc, all of which costs and requires lots of evidence. I would also have qualified for both (Before I hit 40 anyway), and it never occurred to me to go through the hassle of the skills route. -
Children's Car Seats - UK vs Aus Regulations
Jon the Hat replied to bicek's topic in Kids Down Under
It is tricky isn't it. Taxi's don't legally have to have them in either country but it isn't a great plan to go a long distance. I would expect Car hire company would deliver the car for a fee, but might be easier to order the car seats. Maybe some of those who are already in quarantine can confirm if you can order anything you like. -
Children's Car Seats - UK vs Aus Regulations
Jon the Hat replied to bicek's topic in Kids Down Under
We haven't moved yet, but you will be on a coach to quarantine so not required. From the Q hotel you can hire a seat from a car hire company for the little one. or I guess order a delivery to the hotel during your 2 weeks. -
Children's Car Seats - UK vs Aus Regulations
Jon the Hat replied to bicek's topic in Kids Down Under
Sell them. I've sold all our car seats on facebook. -
I doubt being married to a PR holder reduces your rights as a citizen to claim for your kids who are also citizens.

I may have phrased that incorrectly, as I understand it and per the main page for the visitor visa you intention should be to visit only, and you probably have to declare that when you apply. You must intend to come to Australia to visit only have enough money for your stay in Australia not work in Australia

There is a drive though test centre at Gatwick as well, which might be quicker depending on where on the South Coast you are! A quick google of pre-flight covid testing also showed a private clinic in Southampton. Make sue they provide the right certificate.

Also this is in the wrong forum, I would put it in Visa Chat.

I think the best advice is to get the application in asap and hope by the time you are ready to go you have progress. If you don't then you go on a Visitor visa and let them know your husband is in Australia so they can notify if he needs to leave for the visa grant. Upsides - it might all be sorted, downsides you might have an extended period in Australia where your husband cannot work as there is no bridging visa option. Know that UK applications are usually a fair bit quicker than the global figures as the UK is not a high risk country for economic migration or documentation fraud. Second option is to travel to Australia on holiday and then apply for a spouse visa onshore, which allows a bridging visa under which your husband can work. Upsides you are there with the right to work, downsides it might take longer and some employers are not that keen on giving roles to people on bridging visas. Note that it is a breach of visa conditions to enter Australia on a visitor visa with the plan to then apply for the spouse visa, and sometimes you might get a no further stay condition on that visa which blocks the application. Expecially if you are clearly moving lock stock and barrel. I hope this helps - I would personally defo go with apply now.

Valuation of UK property for CGT purposes - who is qualified?
Jon the Hat replied to Chocci's topic in Money & Finance
It would be a RICS surveyor as they are the national standard. I just had one to do with my house sale. Cost £300-£500 depending on house value. -
Hi David - how is it going? I take it your flights were ok and you are are coming to the end of Quarantine now?
-
You are completely mad. Wait another year until this lockdown nonsense is over.
-
I'm sure they are doing their best to make everyone as comfortable as they can within the space they have. Worth asking for sure, we will be! Madness lies in one room and my kids for 14 days...

Has anybody made the move from UK to WA recently?
Jon the Hat replied to Mike B's topic in Western Australia
When does your Visa run out? Do you mean your initial entry date or your travel portion on a PR visa? Initial entry dates are being suspended via a letter allowing later entry due to the Covid restrictions. -

Jon the Hat replied to Mike B's topic in Western Australia
Several people on here have moved in the past few months but not to Perth. Yes it is a risk but you’d be very unlucky to not get there in my opinion. -

I think being flexible and accepting some delay / chance of being bumped is less of an issue than chucking £15k at business class, but some would disagree! I would do the direct flight, but my wife had a DVT in the past and is nervous of nearly 17 hours straight.
