Our best friends emigrated to sydney 8 years ago and live outside in a village called Quakers hill. Christians work will be based in Alexandria & I'm to find a job wen I'm there in a salon somewhere. Still not decided on where to live, all I know is we need a 4 bed house with a pool :-) (typical Brit eh?!) Robscotthair
Going to rent for the first year or so and have budget for $1000 per week. Have been looking online and will probably move slightly out away from central (say 30 mins drive) so we get more for our money..
MARYROSE02
For $1,000 a week, you could rent somewhere nice on one of the beaches Bondi, Bronte, Tamarama, Coogee, Clovelly - no garden or pool perhaps, but with the beach on your doorstep, you would not need it. They are a nuisance to maintain, too. There are plenty of nice appartments in Alexandria, too, many with a pool in the complex, perhaps a gym too, and you'd be close to the city. Of course, if you specifically want a house, garden, pool, then that means moving out a bit. Look for a place with a station within walking distance, or a good bus service. Robscotthair
Yea I like the idea of being by the beach but deffo need a garden coz of the dogs. Don't mind commuting..
MARYROSE02
I'm not that good on where to live out in the 'burbs and I detest commuting, so I'd feel guilty recommending someone to live where I would not go myself! I do rather like the area where my brother lives - Picnic Point - very green and leafy, close to the bush and the Georges River, good shopping and train close by at East Hills, Panania, Revesby, Padstow. It takes about half an hour on the train to Central. But again, it's all the little 'add-on' hassles of commuting that I don't like - bus to the station, if you are outside of walking distance, get off at Redfern for another bus to Alexandria. Of course, you could always rent a terrace house, not much of a garden, but get one close to a park, and that is where you walk your dogs. There are plenty of people in my area - Surry Hills, and the other inner city areas - like Alexandria! - who do that! Funny but walking back from the Trinity this evening after watching Sydney beat Hawthorn (go the Swans! Go the Bloods!) I crossed Ward Park and noticed two different blokes getting their placky bags out to pick up the business! Take a look at Leichhardt, Stanmore, Petersham, Annandale, Five Dock, Haberfield. You might find something suitable there. That reminds me, around Five Dock, Haberfield, there's one of those parks and cafes popular with dog walkers. I might Google it later but, at 0030, I want to pop down the pub.
Rupert
Northern beaches might suit your pocket. We pay just over your budget for a three bed house with garden, sea views, short stroll to beach and 45 minute commute to Sydney. Well longer in bad traffic, maybe an hour then. We are a couple, not gay, age 38 and 42, like good food and wine, would be happy to meet up when you get here. Good luck with the move.
