TeeTMI
Occupational Ceilings The following occupations appear to be close to reaching their occupational ceilings for the 2013/2014 year. The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) has advised that invitations for certain occupational groups in the points-tested migration program will be issued on a pro-rata basis over the 2013/14 program year. They have advised that the states will not be able to nominate any applicants from these occupations for a 190 visa. Occupations impacted by this policy change include: ICT Business and Systems Analysts - 2611 Chemical and Materials Engineers - 2331 Electronics Engineers - 2334 Telecommunications Engineering Professionals - 2633 Other Engineering Professional - 2339 Software and Applications Programmers - 2613 DIAC have advised that the total of the occupational ceiling will remain the same but the pro-rata approach will mean that invitations will be staggered and issued to selected individuals over the course of 2013/14 in twice monthly occupation rounds. TeeTMI
The latest update for the Occupations which reached their ceilings last year is as follows. DIAC have stated that they will be allocating invitations to apply for the following occupation groups on a pro-rata basis across the year. Details can be found at the SkillSelect website, however for the 05 August round of invitations they have allocated invitations as follows: Occupation & Code Points Visa date of effect

2331 Chemical and Materials Engineers 65 2013-07-22 23:00:00.310

2334 Electronics Engineers 60 2013-05-26 18:01:16.580

2339 Other Engineering Professionals 65 2013-07-25 07:41:35.940

2611 ICT Business and Systems Analysts 65 2013-07-20 15:30:50.177

2613 Software and Applications Programmers 60 2013-05-28 00:00:49.197

2633 Telecommunications Engineering Professionals 65 2013-07-26 00:42:26.267

So if you are looking to submit and expression of interest under one of these occupations think tactically. What are the chances of 2633 being included in the SOL for 2014-15? DIAC states that invitations will be issued on a pro rata basis, does that mean only 9 invitations for 2633 will be issued for each round?

rahim
Hi Tee, How would the pro-rata scheme for the above mentioned occupations effect those that have already received an invite and have been assigned a case officer?? Only reason I'm asking is that I received an e-mail from my case officer this morning with the following: The visa you have applied for is part of the Regional Skilled category. The Migration Program planning level for this category has limited number of places left for the 2013-14 program year. This means processing times may be longer and that once the remaining places are used, the Department cannot grant further visas in this category this program year unless more visa places become available. I cannot advise you whether more visa places will become available in this visa category as planning levels are determined by the Australian Government ... I was in the impression that the remaining spots only applied to applicants waiting for invites as common sense would suggest that they would not send out more invites than the actual quota itself. Really hope you could help shed some light on this. Cheers!
kingsinaus
Hello all (my first post), I hope someone may be able to allay my fears or and perhaps answer a few of my concerns. I have a query with regard to the occupation celling & Pro-rata and how it is applied. I plan to submit an EOI for a 189 visa under occupation class 2339 (assessed as ‘Engineering Technologist’) scoring 65 points. I am worried that I have no hope given the occupational celling and the overall risk that 2339 may be removed next programme year. I note that the points against each of the occupations on the celling list alters up and down each month, do I have any hope with 65 points even although some months it’s been at 70? Is there any way of knowing how many are in the 2339 pile? Engineers Australia assessed me as an Engineering technologist however my background is quite varied; indeed I think I could be assessed as a ‘Engineering Manager’ 13321 or as a ‘Plant Engineer’ 233513. Would it be wise to attempt to get Engineers Australia to re-asses me as I believe this would improve my chances of a visa? When does the programme year end? Thanks for reading!
