Ozmaniac
There is no upper age limit on 457 visas so that part of what you've heard is true. The problem though is that you would never be able to get a permanent visa as you're over the age limit and would not be eligible for an age exemption. Eventually, after your 457 (or perhaps after a succession of 457s), you would have to leave Australia.

NickyNook
You can only apply for citizenship when you have been living in Australia for 4 years. And one of those years must have been on a PR visa. (Which a 457 isn't).
Joebloggs
thans, got told that i could apply for asu cizternship and av tduel passports after 18 months ?? No citizenship and no passport unless you been living in Australia for 4 years and at least 12 months of those as a permanent resident. You won't get a PR visa over the age of 50 unless you meet the age exemptions.
MaggieMay24
457 is a temporary work visa for up to 4 years. You can only get citizenship if you're able to get permanent residency, and all work-related visas require you to be at least under the age of 50 unless you meet the exemptions (very limited based on a few specialised occupations or high income through the entire 4 years on 457). You would have to find a willing sponsor now, that will employ you for four years, paying at or more than the "high income threshold" which is about $130k at the moment and then in four years time, when you are 58 they would need to be willing to sponsor you again for a permanent visa. There are a lot of things that would need to go right for you in that scenario, which is why I would rate it as remote..
blossom
Not to mention it is very hard to find an employer who is eligable to sponsor people in trade occupations.
