SlimmingSw_ain
Hi guys. I am new to this kind of thing but I’m looking at taking a year out of my job back in the UK and coming to Australia. I am working as Nursing Assistant currently and would be looking at the same job in Australia. Does anyone have any directions on how to go about it. Thank you. Marisawright
Your only option is a WHV (Working Holiday Visa), assuming you fit the age criteria. It's easy to apply and takes only a few weeks to get it approved. Once you have it, you can work legally in Australia for twelve months. However, you can only stay with the same employer for a maximum of six months, then you have to move on. It's unlikely you'd secure a job before you leave, you'd need to arrive and then start looking.
Amber Snowball
Probably worth checking that Australia would recognise what you do now as I don’t think they will. They have certificate courses that carers (HCAs) have to do before getting work there, nursing assistants don’t exist there as far as I know. Certainly never came across anything similar in Victoria. They have Enrolled Nurses but again that is an accredited course. It may be you need to work in a different capacity.
