Dicktata
Hi I am 43 year old English (Cornish Rather) Self Employed Builder, Carpenter but i am qualified NVQ level 2 Plumber and bpec oil boiler installer commissioner and service technician! Also i Am Padi Divemaster! I Am currently in NZ only on a Holiday Visa but desire to come to Australia to live and work with flights booked for March! With me are my two sons aged 19 and 18 who are also both Divemasters! I am struggling so much to find the info i need to get underway! Apparently i can do a skills assessment here in NZ for both countries but so far have no information on how or what it takes and cost or even a company that does it although have emailed a couple! is it worth arriving in Australia and seeking sponsorship or if i get a skills assessment is this going to be easier than trying to get my Uk qualifications transferred, personally id rather be a diver working with boats or secondly a carpenter working with a small firm making friends and being more personal than for a big construction firm in a city! Or even study and retrain if the possibility arose! Just need some help in direction from some people like you who have gone through similar Many thanks for any info
wrussell
From what you have posted, your prospects of being granted permanent residence in Australia do not look good. May I suggest that you consult a registered migration agent for an assessment of your case?

wrussell
Many registered migration agents (including me) will undertake a free preliminary assessment. If there is no reasonable prospect of an application succeeding a RMA will tell you so. All the RMAs who post on this forum will certainly do so. Sometimes a detailed assessment is necessary, for which you could expect to pay an assessment/consultation fee, possibly about 20% of what you have been quoted..
VERYSTORMY
You also need to be aware that your sons will probably need to qualify for their own visas in their own right

wrussell
This is good up to 25: (1) If the applicant has turned 18: (a) the applicant: (i) is not engaged to be married; and (ii) does not have a spouse or de facto partner; and (iii) has never had a spouse or de facto partner; and (b) the applicant is not engaged in full-time work; and (c) subject to subclause (2), the applicant has, since turning 18, or within 6 months or a reasonable time after completing the equivalent of year 12 in the Australian school system, been undertaking a full-time course of study at an educational institution leading to the award of a professional, trade or vocational qualification. (2) Paragraph (1)(c) does not apply to an applicant who, at the time of making the application, is a dependent childwithin the meaning of subparagraph (b)(ii) of the definition of dependent child. Take some professional advice. Edited November 26, 2018 by wrussell

Dicktata
Personally I would wish to be able to live in Australia and in having a visa they could continue their education
