AaronD
My partner and I are doing the application for our De Facto partnership visa (801) and we have been asked a few time when our relationship began but then it also asks what time our committed De Facto relationship began. Would we regard this as the day we considered ourselves an exclusive couple or the day we decided to start living together?
Toots
I should think it would be when you started living together with proof such as joint bank account, both names on bills etc etc.
Marisawright
The definition of a de facto relationship is "a relationship equivalent to marriage". When you decided to become an exclusive couple, that would be the equivalent to getting engaged.

Being exclusive could just mean going out with each other and agreeing to not get off with other people! De facto has to mean when you were living together and sharing a life as if you were ‘married’ Edited January 6, 2019 by Tulip1
paulhand
The definition of de facto relationship, in law, is one in which the partners are not married and "have a mutual commitment to a shared life to the exclusion of all others; and the relationship between them is genuine and continuing; and they live together; or do not live separately and apart on a permanent basis; and they are not related by family." The de facto relationship begins when these criteria are met. It is not wise to equate this with marriage as you can be married and still fail the partner test for migration purposes.
