General Information Regarding Visa189

Hi,

My name is Sarah and I am new to this forum and I am looking for some help/information regarding the 189 VISA. I would really appreciate it if anyone could answer any of the following questions I had. A little bit about myself...I am 37 years old living in Brighton, England and currently in the process of preparing an application for a 189 Skilled Independant VISA with my partner. I am a qualified Social Worker and believe we would have the required 65 points to gain entry. Many thanks in advance.

- From the date of Visa being granted, how long do we have to arrive in Australia and activate visa? Does the visa last for a lifetime? And could this be done on a holiday without work initially, ie to activate the visa? We have read conflicting information regarding timeframes.

- If my Visa was granted as a Social  Worker, am I limited to JUST doing Social Work/Social Work in a certain role? Could I seek employment in other fields ie Family Support Worker, or even a complete career change?  If anyone has experience of applying/gaining visa through Social Work I would really appreciate hearing about their experiences and any advice they could give.

- Can my partner work in any job? (He does not have a skill on the Skilled Independent Visa list).

- If we were successful in gaining Visa’s, but before we left England had started a family, how easy is it to add a child/children to visa?

- Do you advise going through a Visa Specialist Company to gain a visa, and if so is there one you would recommend?

Again thank you so much to you all for reading and any help you can give.

Best wishes,

Sarah.

I am sorry to say they are not inviting anyone with 65 points. They are only inviting people with a minimum of 70 points. Even if they do start inviting people with 65 points all those that submitted an expression of interest before you will be invited before you

You could boost the points by improving the english score? Or maybe you could look at the 489 or 190 visa. The 190 will automatically give you 5 extra points and the 489 will give you 10 extra. However they do have obligations that you must work and live within certain regions.

To answer some of your questions:

- For the 189 you have to enter Australia (even for a holiday) 12 months after your police certificate or medical. Whatever comes first. The visa is permanent but it only comes with the ability to enter Australia for 5 years. You can extend this with a resident return visa. Or after 4 years you can apply for citizenship.

- You and your partner can do anything you want for work once your visa is issued. You don't have to do the occupation your visa was granted under.

- I used this company: https://ptlabs.com.au/

Hi. Thank you so much for getting back to me and for all the useful information. Could I just ask is scoring 70 points a new mandatory requirement or just how it is at the moment/could change depending on which skilled job you apply with? I believe I would score 65 points classing my education as high as a Batchelors - I have a Masters but don’t think I could class that as a Doctorate which would increase my points to 70. Many thanks again for all your help. Sarah.

The minimum number of points is still 65, however they are only inviting people with 70+. The reason is due to the volume of people submitting expression of interests. If the volume of people with higher points reduces they will start inviting people with 65 points again. However it is a first come first serve system so all the 65 point people ahead of you will be invited first. A semi educated guess - I don't think they will be inviting 65 point EOI any time soon.

Where in Australia would you like to go? You should seriously consider the 190 and 489. How many points have you allowed for the English exam?

Although we refer to a 189 "queue",  it's not really a queue - it's a competition.  As the applications come in, they cherry-pick the ones with the highest scores and ignore the rest. So it's not possible to predict how the numbers might fluctuate, because it depends who's applying.   Applications coming into the queue with 70 points will just keep leapfrogging you.

To be honest, we're not seeing people with 65 points being invited much at all for the 189 - there are just too many people with higher points constantly joining the "queue".
