Rena Tan
I understand most parents who apply for 804 is bcz they want to use it to move to Aust ASAP. Can someone pls help explain what happens to those who submit application but do not want to move to Aust yet? Can they still travel on tourists visa without the immi withdrawing their 804 applications? In case you are curious, my aunty is applying because her only child is an Australian now. She will join him in later years. Thank you for help.

Alan Collett
An issue is likely to be the need to be a genuine temporary entrant when applying for a visitor visa. Best regards.

They wouldn't lose the 804 application, they'd lose the Bridging Visa A associated with it though.

But since the 804 has a waiting time of 30 years, that doesn't mean much?

Best regards. Thank you for your reply, Alan. As you are a reputable person to seek advice, I take it you meant the main issue is the visitor visa, nothing to do with bridging visas as my aunty travels in & out of Aust. Her visits to Australia is usually once or twice a yr & each visit is for a couple of wks only. Will she have problem applying for tourist visas for years to come after it expires, & considering she has submitted her applications for 804? Thank you Alan for your kind response. I generally counsel clients that they should see Australia as their home when applying for an onshore visa. What your Aunt is proposing to do doesn't lend itself to an onshore visa strategy. IMHO. So then she will have to wait until the 804 visa is granted before she can settle in Australia.
