Neil72
Hello, My parents will be applying for a Contributory Parent Visa (143) as soon as they arrive in Australia which will mean they will be granted a Bridging Visa A. The question is will it possible to ship their belongings from the UK in a container on a Bridging Visa A or would they have to wait until Permanent Visa has been approved? Also, does anyone have a good immigration lawyer / agent based in Brisbane they could recommend to assist with the Contributory Parent Visa application? Many thanks, Neil. LindaH27
Bridging visas are not given to Contributory Parent 143 visa! You can apply on or offshore for 143 but will have to wait offshore till visa is granted although visits are permitted, Applications being made now are allegedly going to take 7-8 years They need to check the visa they get to enter the country to see if it has an end date to leave and/or whether it has a condition preventing them from making any further applications whilst in Australia. Marisawright
Linda’s reply just illustrates how important it is for them to consult an agent before they even attempt to leave the UK
Quoll
Why would they even think of selling up and transporting stuff if there is a chance they won't get a visa? Apply offshore then go for long visits would be the safest bet and sell up when they have their visa in their hot little hands
Tulip1
I thought you could only apply offshore but either way there is no bridging visa. They will have to lodge their application and wait offshore for many years just like everyone else does
LindaH27
From immi website offshore Parent (Class AX – Migrant) (subclass 103) Contributory Parent (Class CA – Migrant) (subclass 143) Contributory Parent (Class UT – Temporary) (subclass 173) Offshore visa applicants Note: Parents of any age may apply for one of the following visas: • Parent (Class AX – Migrant) (subclass 103); • Contributory Parent (Class CA – Migrant) (subclass 143); or • Contributory Parent (Class UT – Temporary) (subclass 173) visa, but they must be outside Australia when the visa is granted*. Usually, persons making such applications are outside Australia at the time of application. However, offshore visa applicants may lodge an application while they are in Australia unless they are legally prevented from doing so under migration legislation. For example, persons will be prevented from applying while they are in Australia if they have a ‘No Further Stay’ condition attached to the visa that they hold at time of application. Parents who have had a previous application refused while they are in Australia may also be prevented from applying in Australia
Wonderingaloud
I thought it was only the aged parent visas that had bridging visas allowing them to stay onshore. I think they can apply onshore (if they don’t have a ‘no further stay’ condition on whatever visa they enter Australia on) but they can’t stay while it processes. Best speak to a Mara registered agent, there are some good ones who post regularly on this site. Some of the pitfalls of remaining in Australia whilst waiting for a visa to be granted were recently discussed in the link below. Though it’s for the aged parent visas, the considerations are worth being aware of, even if your parents come over for 12 months at a time on a holiday visa. Good luck
