Jelly
Hi all We are considering whether to make the move from Brisbane to Sydney. We have no kids, but are looking to start a family soon. Can anyone who has lived in both cities comment on the difference in cost of living and quality of life between the 2 cities? Anyone who has lived in Sydney - are you able to comment on how expensive it is to live in Sydney? Thanks!

Jelly
We would like to be able to buy a house/townhouse - not looking to raise kids in an apartment. We'd be looking to stay on the North Shore.
rammygirl
Housing costs would be the biggest difference along with commuting times.
Marisawright
Cost of living overall is about the same. Housing, on the other hand, is hugely more expensive. Check the median house price - for Brisbane it's around $490,000 whereas for Sydney it's $785,000. When you say North Shore, how far north? We used to live South (Oatley). Our 2-bedroom townhouse with postage-stamp garden is now worth about $1.2 million. If it was in the equivalent location on the North Shore, it would be more.
