Elayna
Hello, I am new to the forum so in advance a warning I am not familiar with all that I might be asking !! We are currently considering an application for Partner Visa for my husband of 7 yrs. He is English and I am Australian. I have lived out of the country for 19 yrs now. We are concerned with the application due to him having Rheumatoid Arthritis and being on a medical infusion every 6 - 8 months. I am aware of the cost of this medicine in Australia and also the others he has to take like anti inflammatory drugs and others needed. My question is ... Has anyone else had Health issues they have had to deal with in their application - I am most sure they will query this in the Basic Medical side of the application as it is an ongoing illness. If so how successful have people been either keeping within the $49 000 costs for 10 yrs they state. Or if they state you will exceed it what are the chances for a successful application. This information might help our decision to pay for an agent to walk us through the application process and for any future appeals for this. Thank you for any advice in advance. xx
VERYSTORMY
When there is a health complication, a good registered migration agent is vital. Jlook up George Lombard who is an agent that specialises in visas with medical complications

The way they look at this is to consider what the cost to the Commonwealth would be for a "hypothetical person" with the same condition. In other words, it is about their doctor's calculation of the costs associated with the condition, not whether you can "keep within" a limit. There are waivers available for partner visas, but it's a complex area and as @VERYSTORMY says, not one to be addressed without specialist help. Elayna
Hell filling in the damn application requires a PhD - but yes I suspected as such and have been looking into possible quotes for this. Thank you both for your feedback. It is helpful if anyone has also had personal experience and if they had wished they used an agent or had used an agent and were happy they did. Thank you in advance for any replies

Thank you in advance for any replies You probably didn't spot, but I am one of the moderators of the forum and have read thousands upon thousands of posts. I have replied to nearly 12000. I have seen many an application fail medical criteria when an agent would have got them through it. Dont forget, if you fail, you lose that fee. I held three different visas before gaining citizenship. My advice is it is always good money spent to use an agent. Yes it costs, but in the big scheme it is a drop in the ocean.
