DebM
My partner lives in Scotland. We have been engaged for 5 1/2 years . We have travelled back and forth 20 times between us. The plan is for him to move out. We do not know which Visa to first use to come out that allows him to apply for a temporary partner visa as some don't . Can anybody help us. Thanks. Also is it better to use a Migration agent in Australia or in Scotland?

I recommend having a look at processing times for partner applications lodged from the UK (offshore) compared with applying when in Australia (onshore) - and then compare the expected processing times with your personal timeline for moving to Australia. Best regards.

If you're not married, then you can't get a partner visa unless you have been together in the equivalent of marriage for at least 12 months. Not dating, and not engaged - it has to be the equivalent of marriage. Immigration recognises that sometimes, circumstances (e.g work) keep couples apart even when they're married - but you say you are engaged, which suggests you are still running your lives independently, although you communicate a lot. You can apply for a Prospective Marriage Visa. That visa allows you to come to Australia, then you have to get married within a certain window of time, and then you can apply for a partner visa. Both Paul and Alan are reputable migration agents who could help you with the application.
