Aussiebird
Hi everyone, We had a consultant round today to quote for our belongings and suggested a shared container. We have 1100 cubic feet so would need to share a 40ft container. Has anyone gone through the process of sharing a container and hkw did you find the process overall? Would you recommend? Thanks in advance. Xx
ali
We considered it initially, but as you have to wait for the other half of the container to be filled (and they could not give a time frame for that), we decided against it. Shipment of a sole container is around 12 week, we didn't want the container sitting there x amount of weeks waiting. We had a 3 bedroomed house and easily filled a 20ft.

Thanks Ali, My concern would be that we would be charged a delay fee if the container was not filled by someone else, the company cant possibly know how long we would have to wait! Can you not consider getting rid of some stuff and going for a sole use 20ft?

It's definitely an option but we want to avoid paying for storage in Oz once the container arrives and sharing one will give us more time to buy a home and find work. We are staying with family which is very helpful but delaying the arrival of our goods might be better for us. Should get the quote today. So if we go sole use for 20ft and it arrives before we have found a house and jobs then we would be paying storage fees and we wouldn't know how long for. We've got a 2 bed bungalow and was told we wouldn't get everything in a 20ft!! Its a small bungalow too, but we have got quite a bit in the loft, garage and some bulky garden furniture, so coming in at around 1100 cuft, which is just over for a 20ft container. The surplus (garden furniture) could go in a shared container i suppose.
Marisawright
If the garden furniture is very bulky, it may not be economically sensible to ship
rammygirl
We fitted most of our large 5 bed home in a 20ft. We didn’t bring garden furniture, or all beds or sofas though. Just 2 sofas out of 4. Just prioritise loading so they load essentials first and anything that doesn’t fit you can sell or whatever.
