Phuong Le
Hello everyone, I am dependant child in my mom's visa 143. Does anyone know that the age limit for the dependant (under 23) is about the person's age at time of application or time of decision? Also, the person need to remain financially dependent on the main applicant. Is it ok for the person to work part-time and go to university at the same time? Or they should earn nothing at all? If anyone know something about these matters, please help me. Thank you all.
Marisawright
When did you apply? The rules have changed and you must be under 23 at the time of decision. However if you applied before November 2016, the new rules might not apply to you. Edited June 27, 2020 by Marisawright
Tulip1
Age limit is at the time of decision not application. If you’re a full time university student then you would be considered dependant. A part time job wouldn’t matter as you need to prove you are wholly or substantially financially dependant. Unless your part time job pays enough for you to live completely independent, then you are dependant. All this is irrelevant of course if you are over 23 at decision stage. You need to prove age and dependancy at time of decision, not lodgement date.
Indiana56
but you need to provide evidence as well during the lodgement of file and when they will process the file after 5 years then you need to prove dependency again. but they will considered you as 18-23 years old . Not more than 23 years. ..... same like 18 years old dependent, If you add a dependent less thn 18 year old during lodgement, you don’t need pay 47000 dollars for dependent child even when they process file after 5 years. You will be considered as less thn 18 year old. Edited June 27, 2020 by Indiana56

To the original poster, only if you are 23 or under at the TIME OF DECISION not time of application, will you be successful as a dependent - if you applied after 19 November 2016. The department of Home Affairs - despite it being a government department - often give out incorrect and inaccurate immigration advice - such as their reply to Indiana56's post.
