Raul Senise
It depends on the specifics of the criminal record and how serious the matter was.

psuwara
Things like a drug conviction would likely be ok, DUI something like. If it's theft of property or similar it will be very tough. If it's related to domestic violence, armed robbery or similar, then likely you can forget about it. But there's no harm in trying to prove your case. No one size fits all answer I'm afraid.

Surprised you got a criminal conviction for it. It is indeed a criminal offence in Australia. If you hide this fact from your application it will more likely you will have it rejected than if you admit it, supply the evidence of the charge and explain what happened and apologies. It is a summary offence in NSW.

But generally speaking, there is a common sense approach, something like being caught smoking weed when you are 19, vs violent burglary with jail time. Has there been anyone you know who has had a VISA granted with a criminal conviction for domestic abuse?

I never bothered to turn up for the court hearing. Apparently it's voluntary in the UK.
