ramot
Husband and I are planning a visit to south of Perth, obviously the Margaret River and perhaps further south or only a little way inland, for approximately 2 weeks from15th February - 29th February. We have booked the last 4 nights in Bunker Bay, catching up with friends, and will drive around the local area. We have visited Perth several times so don’t need to spend time there, any suggestions please for the first week, preferably in the south of Perth, unless there is somewhere fairly interesting just to the north. Monkey Mia is far too far., and we have been to Broome, and the Bungle Bungles, seen the rock art. Really want to concentrate on south of Perth, so welcome any suggestions. Thank you

Elayna
If you mind a further drive Albany is great lots to see and do down that way even walking in the giantle tingle trees in Gisnts Walk. Sadly the tallest tree climb in the Pemberton region has been closed but the tree top.walk and the other Forrest walk is wonderful. Over 400 wineries throw in a smattering of distilleries and beer production places with the fudge and chocolate company places for the sweet tooth you can't beat a lovely casual beach lunch overlooking the water at Preverly Park or Gnarabup white elephant Cafe.. Our favourite and near the mouth of Margaret river. Enjoy
InnerVoice
The coastline around Albany is stunning and well worth the drive down there. If you're going to Margaret River then the caves are fabulous, as is Cape Leeuwin.
bonanza
Gnarabup has stunning beaches and is a couple of kms from the town of Margaret River, it is a good spot to stay with lots of holiday rental options (or stay at the smart Cape Lodge Hotel though it caters more for international tourists). While in Gnarabup visit the White Elephant Beach cafe and take a few detours up and down Caves Road to Cullen Wines, Vasse Felix, Stella Bella, and Moss Wood (if the latter is open for visitors). Many of the wineries do great lunches, Voyager being the glitziest and there are lots of little boutique wineries also worth a visit. We recently stayed at Redgate Beach Villas just a bit further down the road from Margs, a great spot but more isolated. (We are going back in March )There are lots of great places if you liike the outdoors. If you llike walks then a local guide book 'Walking Round In Circles' has some interesting short and longer walks in the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park that include interesting landmarks and beaches too. Albany's worth a couple of days visit (whalewatching boat trips with Naturaliste Charters and the old whaling station) and if you have the time you can do a circuitous trip heading first to Albany then Margaret River then Bunker Bay. Albany Highway (does what it says) is a good fast road, allow 5 hours to/from Perth. There's also Porongarup (Sleeping Lady Retreat) and Mount Barker area further south east, with the Stirling Ranges and the Great Southern an interesting environment too. If you don't mind a long drive you could head from Perth down to Bremer Bay and go out on an Orca sighting boat trip (need to stay 2 nights), or head further east towards Esperance though that's a l-o-o-o-o-ng way . Have a great time, I'll be heading over right behind you! Book accommodation asap because this is still summer hols and options will disappear fast. Blue Manna
All of the above. Plus Busselton museum is actually pretty good. Busselton pier is quite nice. Lots of breweries wineries and all that. I find Dunsborough and Margaret river quite crowded this time of year, but worth a visit if you don't mind searching for a parking space. No trip to the south west is complete without a trip to Gnome world. Bluff knoll if you fancy some exercise.

DrDougster
The ANZAC museum in Albany is definitely worth a visit and the walk up to the view of where the fleet assembled is very well done. Windows winery is excellent - the owner Jo actually opened for us on New Year's Day. Much more personal and interesting than bigger ones like Cullen. I'd definitely stay at Gnarabup rather than Margaret River if you're near there. Cape Leeuwin is stunning.
ramot
Thank you all for your recommendations, we thoroughly enjoyed the trip, with possibly not quite so much, the day the temperature hit 42’! We went to most of the suggested places, The Elephant Beach cafe, Anzac Centre, Busselton Jetty, the Chocolate Factory, Fasse Felix winery, The Voyager, but really liked the Windows Winery, the only winery my husband bought any wine from. Jewel Cave, fabulous inside, the stunning Tree top Walk, and an Eco Boat trip. Vasse Virgin beautiful olive oil skin care. I’ve tried unsuccessfully to upload some photos, not sure why it isn’t working . Edited March 4 by ramot
kasiramji06
If you want to explore south of Perth, you're in for a treat! One place that stands out to me is the Margaret River region. It's about a three-hour drive from Perth and worth it.

The area is famous for its stunning beaches, fantastic wineries, and lush forests.Speaking of wineries, if you're a wine connoisseur, Margaret River is a must-visit. It's home to some of the best wineries in Australia, offering a wide range of wines to suit every palate. From robust reds to refreshing whites, you'll find a wine that's perfect for you. It's a wine experience similar to canberra wine tours but with the bonus of a coastal backdrop.
