New to the Buderim QLD area

Guest Eve

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

We've recently moved to Buderim on the Sunshine Coast (me/hubby and six year old) and we're keen to meet up with any other families.

We've been really hectic the last four weeks but starting to get settled into everything now. Finally got our internet connection a few days ago - phew !!!

Also if anyone needs to ask me anything about the area, I'd be keen to help where I can. I'm no expert but when your researching everything from the UK it can be a bit tough.

Our container is going to be delivered tomorrow so we can stop sitting on camping chairs and the spare mattress in the living room. We trapped a huntsmen spider behind the mattress last night - it's been for a swim down the loo !!

Hopefully meet up with some of you soon.

Hi Eve,

we live at Caloundra West which isn't too far from you. Have a 12 year old daughter and 8 year old son. I've met a few people through PIO, 1 lives in Buderim and the other one is moving there soon.

Hi Sharon,

Nice to hear from you - have you been in Caloundra long ? We were on Bulcock Beach yesterday in the rain. We've only been to Caloundra twice and twice it's rained (must be us).

It is a lot harder when you first get here don't you think ? When we we're going through the visa process I just kept thinking once we get there. However looking back the visa was the easy thing.

Have you been to Buderim it's nice and where not far from quite a few places. At the moment we're looking for work, I'm a welfare worker and my hubby's a carpenter. Everyone says that he should be able to find work easily but you don't know until you arrive that you have to get a licence and be assessed etc. Once it's done it's done !!

Be nice to maybe arrange a meet up sometime soon.

Hello Eve,

Glad you are settling in. We are based in Alexandra Headland. Has your little one started school yet?? We have a 5 year old (nearly 6) and may be able to advise you on schools ect. We are also looking to buy in Buderim next year, are you ocean side or Glasshouse side? We are heading down to the river on Sunday to hire a Kayak (Bradman Avenue) if you want to join us, should be fun!

Hi Eve,

we've been here 9 months. Feels like such a long time now. I have been to Buderim, it's a lovely place. It's hard having to start again with every-thing all in one go and every-thing being the same but different.

We came over on Chris's electrical trade but we now have a franchise in a garden care business which we have been doing since May. If you want to meet up let me know and a few of my friends will come along if they can.

Sharon.

Thanks for your reply and invite we'd be delighted to join you on Sunday, if that's okay. We live ocean side, it's really nice in Buderim. We stayed at Alexandra for a couple of weeks when we first arrived it was beautiful. Where and what time shall we meet on Sunday ?

Cheers

Hi Sharon,

I suppose it's the ideal opportunity for a change of career direction - Hope it's going well for you. I've been really busy all afternoon applying for jobs on-line. Some of the jobs with the government you can only apply on-line and send attachments which are word 2002 not 2007 (which I've got) because they can't open them (think they'd have the updated version) !!

Thanks again for your reply Sharon - we'd love to meet up. When and where's good for you ? Be nice to meet up with some of your friends as well.

Cheers

I hope it's okay to join in, I am from New Zealand, and belong to the Trade Me Forum, but there doesn't seem to be anybody on there moving to the Sunshine Coast, they are all in Brisbane or on the Gold Coast.

We have just got home from holiday on the the Sunshine Coast, and we have decided on Buderim as well to move to, it was really lovely, and so close to the beach and everything else. We have a six and a four year old (boys), is your 6yr old a girl or boy? My husband is a joiner, I see your husband is a carpenter (is that the same sort of thing?), my husband does kitchens, stairs, doors and all sorts of other things. It would be great to be able to meet some new people when we get there.

Hi Eve,

Do you know where the Swan Boat Hire is on Bradman Avenue?

It is where all the boats are on the water, you can't miss it. We are going down for about 9.30am this Sunday, we haven't hired one before so watch this space!

The prices range from $10 to $15 dollars for half 'n' hour and you need your drivers licence and a small deposit. There are double kayaks, I am going to share with the little one.

Kaye, keep in touch and we'll meet when you get here. See you Sunday.

Save all your word docs as Rich Text Format, can be opened in any version of word then. It is what I use for my CVs.

Hi There,

Hope you don't mind me butting in on this but I wondered if someone could give me some advice on schools in the Buderim area. We have three boys aged 11, 7 and 4 and are moving from Scotland on February 14th 2009.

We're all very excited and glad that the whole visa/house sale process is almost over and looking forward to our new lives in Australia.

We really fancy the sound of the sunshine coast and have been looking online at rentals around the Caloundra, Buderim areas and would really welcome some advice from folks already there about the schools available. Like all parents, our main concern in this huge rollercoaster ride is that the kids are gonna be as happy in Australia (hopefully happier) than they are at home and us parents are gonna be happy that we've made the right decision. Moving schools/ choosing school/choosing area to live in according to school is such a huge decision to make I'd really appreciate some first hand information.

Thanks again - it's great hearing all your stories about your own experience of living down under and would love to meet up with some of you when we get out there next year.

thanks that would be great to catch up when we arrive. I will keep in touch via here, with when we are coming.

Hi Lucy, sorry can't help you with any of your questions, and we are in the same position as you, we are hoping to be over with 5-6mths - maybe earlier (we are from New Zealand), we have a 4 and a 6yr old boy, so close in age to yours. It would be great to catch up with you, and any other new families moving to Buderim when we get there, it would be nice to get a group together that could socialize every now and again.
