Moved to Collaroy from Rochford last September with my Husband and 2 children aged 5 & 18 months. Finding it difficult to meet new people. Really missing family & friends back home.

Hi Emma,

We are not from Essex but my husband is a big West Ham fan, his back in the UK for 10 days at the moment and has got tickets for the weekend which he was very happy about! We are from Bracknell but now live in Castle Hill so would love to meet up. I'm not working at the moment so free most of the time.

No children out here so can't help with friends for your daughter.

Hayley

Hi Leane

Canvey to Gold Coast eh.... I lived in Basildon (for my sins lol....) for a few years in the early - mid nineties. I worked a bit around Canvey, Hadleigh and Southend.

How have you found the move over - I guess fairly settled in now after 4 years. Mind you there are enough of you all not to get lonely....lol.

I moved to GC in 01 with my aussie partner and we now have a 3 year old boy. I am obviously settled here but I still get quite homesick from time to time. I guess is mainly as all my family still back in UK and I mix mainly with Aussies.....lol.

Mind you I have been told that us Southerners always think of London as home for life....

Cheers

Paul

Hi everyone

it is amazing how many people r from good old Essex, looks funny seeing all the familiar names, we moved from Basildon to sunny coast last May, but originally from Romford & Elm Park. We came with 3 kids 21, 19, 11, taking a bit of time but kids r all doing well now.

Hi Anne Marie

Where on the Sunny Coast are you guys. We are Gold Coast which is a shame as just that bit too far to socialise really.

I hope your fella has some luck with his work. FYI in Perth they plaster as we do in UK and not tape and fill plaster board joints as QLD....

Cheers

Paul

Hi Emma,

I am currently at the very beginning of the paperwork for migration to Oz and really concerned about my two girls who are 18 and 16, cause they are both not that bothered about going out to Oz and Im getting really anxious if we get accepted. We had a holiday at Christmas in Perth, which is where we want to go, and a lot of my family are there and it was wonderful. However, still, particularly the 16 year old is determined she is not going! If you dont mind me asking how were your children and did you have any problems. We are from Chelmsford in Essex and husband and me really want to come out there.

Hi Gill,

I'm from Leaden Roding, just up the road from you. I would agree that you should rent your house out rather than sell (as I have) .... you can't gage how you will feel living here as opposed to visiting! Some settle easily and never look back whilst others hate it and immediately plan to go back to the UK. You can't know which category you will fall into until you move here.

I have a 15 year old son who was also reluctant to come here, but he has settled very well.... kids seem to have a lot more freedom here (I'm in Perth). The kids will make friends easily at school but it seems to be the parents who struggle here, I know because I am one of them!!

Good luck!

Hi, we are visiting Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane and the East Coast in August to see what we think of it for a possible future move.

We are a couple from Colchester in Essex with a 5 month old daughter.

It would be really nice if we could arrange to meet up with people who have already made the move to get the chance to talk to those who have already experienced it all.

If there is anyone who would be willing to have a coffee with us from 1st Aug til 21st, please let me know.

Thanks

x
