HI,

My partner and I have recently moved to Townsville...I am from the Mildlands and he is a south Australian. We are loving the weather and the laid back lifestyle Townsville has to offer but would like to know what is out there sociable for new people in town. I like nothing better than a cold glass of sauv, and my partners tipple is carlton draught. Is anyone out there into anything similar???

you will find lots of people with the same interest! It's just knowing where to meet them in the first place.

A couple of nice places to go are the Brewery pub at the end of Flinders Mall or the Watermark on the Strand. Upstairs in the Consortium lounge is pretty chilled.

Depends on your age group and where you want to go really.

I made some good friends through work, and through a Spanish class I did. Also made a friend on here, she lives on the Strand.

I joined the gym thinking people would chat to me but they don't!

I f you have any other hobbies or interests that is probably a good starting place, but I've found you really have to be more outgoing than usual and be the first to strike up conversation with strangers! Its a funny town, a lot of people don't stay here long, they are posted here or just here on short contracts so its really hard to make friends.

If you are into sport thats a good place to start.

Anyway, hoping to catch up with you soon, hope you saw my other message!

Thanks Michelle.

Was actually looking at joining the local softball team so that's a start. Considered Tennis the day before and no doubt horseriding tomorrow......there are so many to choose from.

I am sure we'll talk more when we catch up. ;)
