My partner and I are living in tasmania. How are you finding it??? To be honest we are going nutty. My partner is from Leeds, and he has been struggling, and I was tasmanian born, but left here when I was 16 so this is my reason why we are here, so we could try it out. Not going well, we have our ups and downs.

If you like message me to see if you would like to meet up with us, or just my partner - do you play pool/snooker by the way????

Hi there,

We should be in tassie in January & would be interested in meeting people from the UK. So we will keep keep watching the threads.

It is always abit strange when you move anywhere new especially if you don't know anyone. We met some English people when we were out for a drive in Colinsville, it's a very quiet place in the hills & a truck had crashed in the lane, we had to wait til the man pulled it out of the ditch so got chatting to a lovely lady, who was from the UK, they had been there for 18 months & loved it, they work on their land which keeps them busy (they don't even have a tv coz they don't have time to watch it!) They told us we are welcome anytime to go & have tea with them, just turn up for a good natter! We will definately take up her offer when we get there. On the whole we loved it, it will take abit of getting used to, but would help if you have some friends to socialise with, especially in the week as everything closes so early. We are moving to Hobart, renting a house for now in Primrose sands.

Will keep in touch & would be more than happy to meet up when we get there.

Have a good week.

Hi everybody - I think a meet up would be great. I haven't met a lot of English out here in Tasmania. My partner and I are highly thinking of moving to Melbourne in January though. But perhaps meeting some English folk in Tassie would make everything a bit more easier. We are feeling rather isolated at moment :) but we have fun in Hobart and driving about in Tasmania.

In melbourne they have English day meetings for BBQ's and stuff so perhaps we could all meet up or something when it's convinient for people who would like to  ????

Hi Ripper,

We would definately be interested in an "English" meet up, if they do it in Melbourne why don't we start it up in Tassie!

Won't be out there until middle of Jan though, but will look forward to it , thats if you don't move to Melbourne.

We could have a beach/park get together in January - somewhere that is kid friendly for those of us with kids, and then another later on when you arrive siamsusie

Also I have heard (haven't been - only found out last week) that on Fridays at The Beach Restaurant - Blackmans Bay a group of English people get together. Don't think it's an official restaurant thing.

Hi folks, im after a bit of advice. How bad is the weather during the Tassie winter? The reason i ask is that the RHH is sponsoring my visa - we had initially hoped to move over at the end of January, but fionances dictate that it simply wont happen. We altered our plans to be over by next October, but the hospital have said that they cant keep the job open until then, which i can understand, but we dont want to have to go through it all again. If we really pushed it we could move over in May, which the hospital maybe OK with, but of course this means landing when the weather has turned for the worse - this isnt going to help with the missus settling, the beach and bbq wont be getting much action and we also wanted a few weeks good weather for a 'holiday' before having to dive into fulltime work. My sister moved over to Auckland in the winter a few years ago and hated it for the first 6 months un til the summer hit - is the Hobart winter as bad as most Aussies claim, or is it just that they are used to so much better weather elsewhere in Oz? Any advice will be appreciated....looking forward to making the meet up at some point in the future also!

Hi smog, late May is starting to get into winter in Tasmania. Hobart is colder than say Launceston because it is nearer Antartica. We have had some lovely days in May but also we have had the wood cut for the cooler nights. As you may have read from some of my posts my Tasmanian husband has been up north in WA in the 50 degree heat and I observed how he was handling the Tasmanian temperatures of 20 years and he appeared to take it in his stride. This year has been a long winter in Tasmania (apparently) but certainly in September it was well on its way to summer . See what the Hobartians think, but we have had the odd BBQ and Webber outside rugged up with an outdoor fire burning, all things are possible lol., and if you do come over best wishes and enjoy your new life.:wubclub: ss x NB you can always send your better half over to Queensland/Darwin/Broome/Karratha to get some rays lol xx

Hi Smogmonster (brilliant name btw) :)

With one thing and another I have spent 3 winters in Tas over the past 4 years, specifically in Hobart and they are not at all bad. Of course it does depend on where you will be living but out here in Hobart, the worst you can look forward to is a very chilly wind and blardy cold rain! I have yet to see snow on the ground although I'm told it does happen every few years, however, you can definitely look forward to a very picturesque snow-covered Mount Wellington each winter

P.S. Thanks for posting to this thread because I had missed it until now. *waves* hello to everyone here at PIO living in Tas!

Hi

Smogmonster - We arrived in February this year and so have just experienced our first "Tassie Winter". There were 2 days when we had a frost in the mornings. It has rained quite a bit in the last few months, although we have been told by Tasmanians that this is "very unusual". When it wasn't raining it was bright and sunny. We did have the heater on for about a month (ish) and it was chilly in the evenings but not too bad. Not as bad as an English winter.

The mountain looks lovely with all the snow on it.

Isisrose, we're in Blackmans Bay, only a few minutes from Kingston.

Have you checked out the thread "do you love Tasmania"?
