Hi all,

Don't know about anyone else but i'm a bit short on the babysitting front so kids have to come where we do!

I think warners bay on fri night is a good idea we can drink kids can play, and we've been meaning to go up there on a fri to listen to the band.

Hope to meet you all soon

Pam

Hello! Just found this thread (and site) I moved to Merewether with my husband for a year's job. Been here for 4 weeks and feeling really homesick already!

I'm 30, looking for work but also hoping to start a family (although that seems to be in the hands of the Gods!)

Would love to meet you all at the beginning of March - if that's ok with you? Can do anywhere you've suggested...

Hi all,

Sounds good really looking forward to it.

hi lucy i'm just down the road from you in Adamstown my son goes to school in merewether heights. Home sickness does get better it's easier if you have things to take your mind off it like kids or work. What kind of work are you looking for?

Hi Pam

Thank you, I'm looking forward to our meet!

I feel loads better than I did last week - it's amazing what a weekend on the Hawkesbury River can do for you! It's funny this homesickness lark - one minute you feel like booking a return ticket home and then next you're thanking your lucky stars that you're here...

I think I'd just be better if I had my Mum down the road, my best friend next door but one and my dogs at my feet.

In terms of work, I'm a marketing and communications consultant and commercial writer (but my real passion is writing children's books), so I'm preferably looking for freelance work for any business who needs a Marketing expert either long or short term to do their advertising, marketing, design, planning, strategy, etc.

Basically, I work on an hourly basis, I'm kind of like a marketing manager 'on loan'.

So, it's a case of trying to find businesses who need me and filling in the gaps... if you know of anything, or anybody who needs an extra pair of hands, do let me know! I'm willing and able and will pretty much do anything! (Within reason of course, mucking out guinea pigs for $0.05 an hour may be a stretch.

Looking forward to meeting you! Have a great day in the sunshine (*aka. have a great day being slowly cooked alive!).

Lucy, I can offer you mucking out guineapigs, although I'd pay you more than 5c an hour! It'd be worth it for me not to have to do it.

So are we still on for this Friday then? I have told my husband that we're coming along (he's Australian but never mind). How will we recognise people, is there some kind of cunning plan for "spot the expat"?

Well, we will come and hover around the bandstand - me, my husband and my 2yo son - probably looking a bit lost! Around 6pm, yes? With some kind of picnic?

And - most importantly - what happens if it's peeing with rain - is the whole thing called off or is there a contingency plan?

Sorry for all questions, it's a bit like going on a blind date, I always used to get nervous then as well (only did a couple but still)

Hi

We're still on for ths Friday, we'll be around the bandstand with our union jack flag (only joking) around 6ish we'll have our 2 boys aged 5 and 11 with us and as per usual everything but the kitchen sink lol, why are the aussies so much better than us ( I'm talking about our family) when they socialise outdoors they make it look so effortless.

If it's raining bring an umbrella lol.

See you all tomorrow, please somebody turn up.....

oh dear, feel a tad feeble but we're going to have to pull out as well because it's just too wet. Pathetic, I know, but we haven't even found the umbrellas and Erin is just too tired to be sociable under the poor weather conditions.

Sorry - hope we can manage another one another time!

while I think of it, is anyone interested in going to the da Vinci exhibition in Newcastle? It's on until 28th March and we are going to try and go sometime - could be an opportunity to meet there if you fancy it?

Hi, I'm new to this forum but came on here as I'm also in the same boat as you guys! I'm from Kent and am currently in Valentine as my boyfriend is from here. I'll be going home for April but then will be back in the Newcastle area until next year at least, so would love to meet up with some other people from home! It seems pretty difficult to meet people in Newcastle?

Haha yes I don't miss cockraches when I go home!! Or mozzies!

Would definitely be good to meet you all. I have met a few people here, and some lovely Aussies, but always nice to get to know people who understand what it's like being away from home!

I'll be able to meet up pretty much any time from the 1st May....just keep me posted :)

How did you arrange the last meet up? Email or just on here?
