Looking at buying quality electical/miele white goods/imac/lcd 42 inch/bose surround system before the move as the rate crashes more each day.

do customs look to check receipts, open boxes and agonise over whether items are 1 year old? can not think that they have time

They can, and often do. Remember that there are plenty of places here where you can get good bargains on white goods and TV's etc, even scratch and dent where there are only tiny scratches on them and you can't notice. Up to you but do you want to go through the expense of shipping? Just a thought.

If the equipment looks new, they may ask - they are customs after all. It is a risk. Always best to play by the (shippers) rules IMO. But others may have recent experience.

I had a mad dash to Richer Sounds in Glasgow to purchase surround sounds, decks etc. and did declare them /enclosing receipts... this was picked up by Customs and questions asked.... no duty required but its probably advisable to declare... as for the white goods, I went on a shopping spree for Siemens products and just removed them from the boxes and nothing was said.:wubclub:
