I've been a regular visitor to Oz over the years and have Australian friends in Townsville, Brisbane and Sydney. Relationship gone pear shaped in UK so I’ve decided to ship to OZ lock stock. I leave on 20th April and arrive on 3rd May. There appears to be more work opportunities in Melbourne so heading there but I know no-one! (don't laugh, I’m shi*ting it). I have a hotel booked for a week in Melbourne where I hope to arrange an apartment during that time. I have my eye on South Yarra suburb but i'm open to suggestions. Petals Posted March 27, 2010 Share Posted March 27, 2010 Welcome you have posted in the right forum so have a read down through the threads and I think you will find that there is a meet up once a month in Melbourne,. Someone should pop along to respond to you. However the Grand Prix is on this weekend in Melbourne and its the beginning of school holidays so some will be a bit busy at the minute. South Yarra is a lovely area. If you look at the following two threads you will see there are quite a few young ones who meet up at the bars around Melbourne CBD. Ya silly bugga, heading to Smellbum...:wink: If you have mates in Qld, go north, young man and have a great life. Yes, I did the same on my own when I was 22 years old, on the £10 scheme. Sharing in a dorm too. Their cheap, loads of people to chat make frineds with etc. Many in similar situaitons to yourself and young adults travelling. Ive stayed in a few in Victoria and am gonna book into one in Melbourne soon as Im coming into town to see the sterophonics. Somewhere cheap to crash and I always meet cool people there. Smile its all good. Good luck. maybe see you on one of the monthly meet ups. Oh and OZ's are very helpful and friendly. you'll be very happily surprised. I went out on a couple of the expats get togethers, met some good people, also you'll find the aussies here are pretty friendly! I've found work but it all depends what industry you're in. Competition for jobs is pretty strong in Melbourne. If you'd like any further advice then please feel free to ask.
