Cost of living in UK for single person

Hi all

I wondered if anyone has any information on the cost of living in the UK for a single person. I own my house but am finding bills, rates, utilities and the cost of groceries to be escalating in Australia beyond common sense, making it difficult for a person living on their own. I want to move back to the UK for many reasons but worry about finding a job which will pay as well as what I earn here. I've heard in the UK council tax/rates are discounted for single occupants, has anyone else heard anything that could give me some idea? Many thanks.

It will all depend what line of work you are in as to how much you will earn and whats available will depend on were you want to live , more work in the bigger cities , how much you will pay rent or mabey to buy will also depend on were you live also council tax rates vary from area to area with a crazy system that has many poorer areas paying more and better off areas paying less but you do get a single persons discount... Shopping and socialising is a lot less expensive than Australia unless you live in London , elictricity and gas are about the same but you use more in winter , but phone , broadband and mobile are all cheaper , so it evens out , and of course petrol is more expensive but better public transport even if you live out of the city.. 3 quid gets you a ride on the buses all day in most areas , hope this helps.

Hi, as a rough guide, I live in Folkstone on the south coast about 60 miles south of London,

one bed flat, £400 a month

council tax £112 a month

electric (quater) £80

gas (quater) £90

food £60-£70 a week.

Running a car is pricey in the UK, fuel and insurance and road tax unless you drive a micra is expensive and fuel now £1.20 nearly everywhere. Wages away from the city are very poor
