Guest chopendoz
As a returnee, what would be my standing as an single Age Pensioner in getting a council flat or even a house? Of course it depends on the area but in general what are the criteria?. I would be interested in getting away from the cities.

I would say it would depend on the area you chose, but there are massive waiting lists everywhere. If you are presenting yourself as homeless, there could be a chance they might put you up in emergency accomodation i.e. a bed and breakfast , but I wouldnt hold your breath! I hope I am proved wrong for your sake but homelessness is a major problem in the Uk. I would be interested in getting away from the citiesMy mother recently arrived back in uk after been in Greece for 9 years- she could have declared herself homeless but they would have put her in a hostel- she ended up in a lovely private rental in a beautiful village- The rent was 450 pcm and she got 350 paid. Each authority has a different amount that they give people depending on circumstances. She wasn't happy with the village location and has just taken a council flat all paid for and was nly on the list 2 weeks- depends where you want to live really. Although I do think they try to send you back to the original are you were in unless you can prove you have links elsewhere. They were a real help to Mum as were age concern who gave lots of advice-hope this helps and good luck.:spinny:

Hi My Uncle returned to the UK after being in Canada for 40 years, he decided to go down the private route as not too keen on some Council flats, so he got a private long term flat really nice, he has his rent paid by the benefits and part pension he had built up before leaving was then added to, to make up to normal cost of living.
