Chefs, Cooks and Police officers all TOP priority! Thank God there's hope for us at last! Thank you for posting this!

Congratulations to all who are listed here! IT's great news!!

Does anyone know if this is the 100% official and finalised list? (excuse my cynicism- but we all know how the DIAC changes goalposts etc) I see it has come from the WA government, so have to assume it's the real deal.

Trying not to get too excited (too late!)

Congrats to you too!

This is the official & final State Priority Occupation List announced & released by Peter Collier, Minister for Energy, Training and Workforce Development today (8 July 2010). Please see the the link.

State priority occupation list to guide workforce planning

Portfolio: Training and Workforce Development

A new State priority occupation list will help Western Australia plan and prepare for industry skill needs.

Training and Workforce Development Minister Peter Collier said the list would be a valuable tool in ensuring WA could attract and retain a skilled workforce.

“The State priority occupation list identifies jobs that are currently in strong demand in WA,” Mr Collier said.

“The list will be used for many purposes and inform decisions relating to the prioritisation of funding for training and the WA workforce development plan.”

The Minister said the Department of Training and Workforce Development had rated each job as a top priority, high priority or priority occupation.

“Occupations have been assessed by estimated demand, skill level required and the potential for employment growth into the future,” he said.

“The department will continue to review the status of occupations on the list based on evidence provided by training councils and industry.”

In addition to the State priority occupation list, the department is developing a State Migration Plan, which will include a Skilled Migration Occupation List that identifies occupations recommended for general migration into WA.

Mr Collier said the State Government was planning for the future now, to ensure future skills shortages were minimised and employment and training opportunities maximised.

“With a number of projects planned or already under way in WA, it is important we develop a skilled workforce to support the State’s economic growth,” he said.

“The Government will continue to take a collaborative planning approach to ensure WA has the right people in the right place at the right time.”

The State priority occupation list is available on the department’s website at

http://www.dtwd.wa.gov.au or by contacting Donna Edwards on 9238 2529.

The Department of Training and Workforce Development - State priority occupation list

HOWEVER, this list is NOT the SMP occupation list!!! I repeat, this State Priority Occupation List is NOT the SMP occupation list!!! The SMP migration occupation list would be drawn from the occupations published in this list and to be published later. Whether all the occupations published here would be in the SMP occupation list is another question. So we would have to wait for the official release of the SMP.

One thing for sure, if you occupation is published in this list, you are not too far off from the SMP occupation list, especially if your occupation is in the TOP priority.

Cheers!

That's what I suspected. Even so, it's the best news we've had in a while! Let's hope WA pull their finger out and get that SMP list out sharpish!

I had a good chat with a lady at WA State Migration Centre to clarify.

They were not aware of this list !!

She advised that all those in receipt of SS will be honoured . If some trades are not on the SMp they will still receive a Higher processing than normal 175's but not as fast as those on SMP. She advised DIAC have confirmed that all those with SS already prior to these changes will not be effected.

When I questioned the C & C Bill she said again WA understand that this is being done to C & C pre Sept 07 applicants who ahd not received sponsorship.

When she looked at the list ( I refered her to PIO ) she remarked that this list does not mean that TOP means SMP as this will not be finalised until early August.

Still up in the air !!

Accountants are on TOP priority, but I have a very strong feeling that English language ability is a TOP criterion for Accountants to be on SMP. :notworthy:

Thanks for calling WA to clarify! More good news for the existing SS holders! Cheers!

And yes, we know that this list is not the SMP list as the SMP list would have other conditions attached. But the fact that WA govt/minister has openly reaffirmed that those occupations in the State Priority occupation list are needed and they have done a proper job and research in accordance with what DIAC has required of the SMP and then published the list is good enough as an assurance.

Ultimately, the SMP list is the final list. But for now, with the publication of this list, we know that we are all heading in the right direction! Great job WA! D

Cheers!

Hi Natty, after the spate of negativity we have recently on the clouds surrounding SMP, this piece of good news from WA govt is really very reassuring. Plus their assurance that we are not affected by the new changes and they will honour existing SS applicants. Thank God for all these positive news...

This list is encouraging, I soooo hope the new SMP WA list is based on this! Hubbie is a cabinetmaker, which is not on the new SOL! So we were left wondering does he get assessed as carpenter, as he has also done this.

I will be dancing a jig if cabinetmaker is on the new WA list!!!!!!

Thanks guys

cheers caz.

This is useful information, but raises some concerns for us as we eagerly wait for SMP!

Skills assessed and visa lodged as welfare worker, (176 family sponsored) which does not appear on this list.

However, OH skills/occupations can be related to occupations that are on the list (community worker or youth worker) So would this mean we'd need to get a new skills assessment done AND lodge a new visa application to be considered for the smp (IF these occupations are even on it!)

I know its just speculating at this stage, but just want to be prepared in the event. It sure beats having to wait a further 2-3 years with the risk of being capped!

Hi Shan07

Sorry I'm confused 'She advised that all those in receipt of SS will be honoured' then she said 'She advised DIAC have confirmed that all those with SS already prior to these changes will not be effected'. Sorry I'm so tired, anxious and confused by it all. I'm reading that as, all with SS if on SMP will be honoured, but then she says if already got SS will not be affected hence will stay in Cat5???

I am really sorry if I'm reading it wrong....help???

Thanks

Gemma

Hi Gemma

Our concern was that asOH is Hairdresser we might have a problem as possibly not on SMP ?? She said as we are in rcpt of SS DIAC will honour the fact that WA had Sponsored even if trade not on the list..

As we had lodged before 1.7.2010 ( Nov 10 actually ) any recent changes will not effect us to the negative I suppose.

Hi triumph01, since you are in CSL and have already lodged, i suppose DIAC would process and clear all existing CSL before moving to the new SMP or so. We have many CSL applicant getting COs & their visas. Hope you get yours soon!

His application will be cleared alongwith the other CSL applications but if the priority processing does change with the release of the SMPs, then he may move down the priority processing line.

Hi Dragsterwish,

It has been a whirlwind 24 hours mate. It got me thinking last night, that the new list may be for applications on or after 1st August this year. As it has been stated previously, If you are on the new SMP and have SS, it will take 12 months from the date of application to get your visa. If you are not on the SMP but have SS it will take 15 months from time of lodgement. If this was to be the case, then this new timeframe would spill in to the financial year 2001/2012. As this years quota has sitll to be filled up, it makes perfect sense to give all people who have SS at the moment a visa in this financial year, 2010/2011, and gives them enough time to process next years quota. I would also be interested to find out, how many people have SS from WA who are in the pipeline at the moment. As I have said on numerous occasions, We have all been given SS from WA for a reason and that reason is because they must need us. More to the point, as you may have seen from jobsearch.com.au, there is more need for us all immediately.

Regards,

John
