Hey Dragsterwish, I'm an Arch Associate too.....

So being TOP PRIORITY....do you think this is this a glimmer of hope that we have been waiting for, and we'll be on the SMP list?

So where abouts are you on the visa pathway?

Carl

Hi Carl, glad to see another Arch associate applicant here! There are not many of us with this trade around in this forum.

The power of the WA State Priority Occupation List is rooted in:

1) Its the latest list of occupations in high demand & are considered industry-critical by WA.

2) Its has been properly researched and developed in line with the economic development framework. This is what the minister has requested in his Feb 2010 announcement of the SMP... that the SMP must be developed within a economic development framework.

3) This list is developed by the same ministry that is also developing the SMP occupation list. And the SMP is being finalized with DIAC.

4) And, according to the ministry, the purpose of this list is to "inform Western Australian workforce development planning, the skilled migration occupation list and the development of the State Training Plan, which guides the funding of training programs." The SMP Migration Occupation list is drawn from this list.

5) Its WA's public & open assurance that the occupations listed are in high demand by WA.

6) Assurance for us that our skills are still needed by WA. Its more than a glimmer of hope!

7) Amidst all the negative news since the annoucement of the SMP, this the only positive news so far and it sure beats having no news or more negative news!

8) It feels terrific to see your own skill in the list.... especially when its in TOP or Higher or priority!

9) Whatever reason that you can think of to cheer yourself up! We need positive news to sustain our patience here.

As to whether we would be in the SMP list, we would still have to wait for the release of the SMP. However, this is definitely a good step and possible prelude to the SMP as it forms part of the WA SMP. Cheers!

For us, we've gotten WA's State Sponsorship since Feb 2010 and has lodged our 176 on the same month. Now awaiting the release of the SMP to see if we are able to jump to Cat 2 processing, just like many others here.

How about you?

Hi Dragsterwish,

This is a truely inspiring post. What you have laid down here is exactly what I have been trying to put together for quite a while. The main point being, that Immi asked the states to prove that they need skills with a detailed report and intensive research and that is exactly what WA have done. I think we are in for some more good news pretty soon. I have spoken to one of my relatives yesterday who lives in Perth and she told me that the employment situation has passed critical with some businesses, so she thinks that Minister Evans needs a rocket up his backside before he ruins the state from which he comes from. My relative also thinks that it may not be long until businesses in WA have to go on short business hours as they cant find the staff to work and the existing staff are now starting to look for higher wages for overtime and pay in general. This is great news for us who already have state sponsorship and are patiently waiting in the wings to fill these places. I also think that Minister Evans will have to do sometihng pretty smart before the election as he could now be at risk of upsetting the business community in WA if he holds off much longer. These are votes Minister Evans, votes that you may need.

Lets wait and see what this week brings.

Regards,

John

Hi John,

Thanks for sharing what your relatives in Perth have told you about the job situation there. I agreed totally with what you've said too and all the developments are finally pointing to a logical stage now. With DIAC giving the States more leeway in deciding who to sponsor, requiring state to do more research to prove that, develop a Priority Occupation list that is tied to the economic development framework, prioritising the list so that the highest priority occupation are accorded priority so that DIAC can apportion the limited quota of visas to the States & ensuring the most critical ones (as decided by the States rather than DIAC as in the past with the CSL) get the needed Visa to migrate to fill in the critical skills/industry in the economy, and with all the businesses crying out for skilled workers and warning about the imminent skill shortage situation that may cripple the development of WA, Minister Evans' need to response to the businesses from WA about the skill shortage problem during the coming election ... All these developments are starting to make sense & gel & sounds like the harbinger of good news in the SMP for us!

Whatever it is, i'm glad things are starting to work out for all of us in a more positive way after suffering for months in the sea of negativity since the dreaded Sept '09 policy annoucement. Cheers!:jiggy:

My OH is top as well, but we are Queensland:arghh: is there anywhere we can find out about that. Thanks:wink:Lesley

Hi Lesley, this list is for WA. We haven't heard anything from Queensland yet. Hope you have good luck with Queensland's version too.

Hi All,

We are also in the same boat as most of you... My husband is an electricial (general) and we had our WA SS approved a few months ago. I have looked at the "WA list" of occupations and General Electricial is marked as TOP. Can someone clarify which is higher - HIGH, TOP or PRIORITY? I know it's clutching at straws, but it just seems AGES since we've had any good news, and we're just hoping that this is the list that's going to be used for SMP and the ball can get rolling again. Just another quick question: If we all fall into the possible new SMP, are we going to have to fork out more ££££££'s for any new paperwork????

Thanks in advance for any info.

Hi Catherine,

Your husbands occupation is in the TOP category. This is seen as the most industry critical section. After TOP comes HIGH and the PRIORITY. As far as when the SMP goes, I would like to think that everyone who has been state sponsored will be on the SMP and I dont imagine any extra cost being involved. If there does happen to be a charge, I would imagine it to be quite a small admin fee, but I wouldnt think so.

Hello all,

please help, any advice welcome! We are hoping to move to Perth and I've just seen that WA is sponsoring ICT Project Managers. The thing I'm confused about is that it's not on the SOL so does that mean that I can't apply? Sorry if this is a silly question - I'm new to all this and we're trying to work out the best route forward.

My other half is an electrician and I am a IT Business Analyst/Project Manager with Prince2 accreditation. The assessment process for me is a lot cheaper and less time consuming but don't really understand the state sponsorship process, how you do it and what it means.

Any info/advice greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Carla

Hello Again,

I’ve not seen any other arch associate on here. Suppose the bonus is, we’ll have the pick of the jobs hopefully.

Yes the news certainly is great.....I just don’t want to get my hopes up as every time I do, and think I know what’s happening something comes along to knock you back.

So are you going to be heading to Perth with a partner / family / kids etc or solo?

Where do you live in the UK?

Our current position is that we lodged state sponsorship probably around Feb as well. Unfortunately we didn’t get the DIAC App in before they suspended the applications. So like you, we’re just waiting on the SMP release so we can then make our application.

So on the work front, have you been in touch with many employers or agencies in Perth?

You an Arch Technician over here? Doing it long?

CARL

Hi Carla,

I have just looked at your occupation and it is a TOP priority as far as WA are concerned. The State Migration plans are yet to be released and it may have occupations on it which are not on the new SOL. At the moment WA have stopped taking new applications, but the fact that you are a TOP priority means that your occupation is industry critical. The States have been told to construct their own lists, so just because your not on the new SOL list, is not a problem in your case.

I would just keep an eye on the WA website for the time being. Also are you going it alone or do you have an agent?

Thanks John, we're going it alone mainly because it doesn't look that difficult and the cost of using an agent.

I found it all slightly confusing because when looking at the Visa options on the aussie immigration website it says you need to be on the SOL list as well as the state sponsoring you. I'll keep my eye on the WA site as suggested - any ideas when the SMP's are due to be released?

Thanks for the info!

Hi Carla,

There are a couple of rumours about when the SMP will be out, either 15th July or 1st August. ( but who knows ? ) This is depending on the immigration minister getting a wriggle on and agreeing to them. I think at that point the DIAC website will be updated also.

There are also plenty of people on here who can help you with your application if you are going it alone. Gill ( Gollywobbler ) has an abundance of information and has been a legend in helping people on here.

Anybody knows where to get a copy of the WA State priority Occupation List that has just been published by WA in the news article?

Care to share, pleaseee! Those occupations in the Top priority would most likely be in the SMP (i suspect). And we want to know what are these!! Also the rest of the 355 occupations too!!!

Anyone in Oz... pls help!

Carla,

I went through and received WA SS as an IT project Manager. Prior to submitting my SS request I had to undergo an ACS (Australian Computer Society) assessment to prove that I was indeed an IT project manager. This created a great deal of work on my part, I think in total I wrote a 10 page report on how my experiences and skills matched those that the ACS deem necessary for IT project Management. My agent who sepcialised in IT migration to Australia was great in helping me through this. Peter from PTLABs is his name if you fancy getting in touch with him (just google PTLAB's). It did take a good 4-5 months to get the ACS approval and then a further 5-6 months for WA SS approval.

We are still waiting for the SMP but what concerns me at the moment is that the ASCO code that I got ACS approval on 2231-79 (IT Project Management) has not been matched with the New ANZSCO codes, although I did see on the The Department of Training and Development state priority occupation listing that there is a code : 135112 ICT project manager. Today I sent a message to the ACS for clarification on whether my previous approval can be transfered to the new code or whether I have to resubmit!

Anyway, just ask if you need anything and I will assist where I can. I would strongly encourage you to have a chat with Peter from PTLABs.

Thanks Andy, I appreciate the information as I had a look on the ACS website today to see what they would need and it doesn't mention submitting a report. Was this something your agent suggested? It looked fairly straight forward and I should be able to gather all the info and evidence they need but suggestions on the extras you can do to support your application don't hurt. It's a complicated business this!

I hope you can transfer your previous approval, I've seen a lot of posts on here regarding this situation and it seems so unfair and frustrating if you have to go through the process again.

I noticed a while ago that IT Project Manager isn't on the SOL list - can I ask what Visa you will be going for and how you get around the fact that WA wants you but the SOL list doesn't show our particular job title?

Thanks,

Carla

Carla,

For the ACS there where 8 category areas that I had to document expierence on that included details around Computer Organisation and Architecture, Data Communications and Networks, Project Management and Quality Assurance, etc.... for each area I did around 500 - 2000 words.

With regards to the State Sponsorship, the 176 is designed for those wanting state sponsorship where your skills are not on the old CSL list. The state migration plan will I guess replace the old WA skills ocupations list. If its not specifically designed for this then this is what we are using it for:)

Ahh, I see, have just gone back to check on the ACS site and if you have an ICT related degree you don't need to do the written work. Which seems a bit silly as I can't remember very much at all from my degree!! Not that I'm going to argue with them of course.

Thanks again for making it all a bit clearer! So far it's been as clear as mud!

Hello, i recall there's another Arch associate applicant from ACT, not WA. So far, i've seen only 3 of us here. Suppose it means that its easier to land a job there, i hope. Btw, it's my wife who is the Arch Associate and the main applicant; she has been in this trade for around 15 years. We are not in UK; we live in Singapore. I work in the aviation industry as a Manager. Being in Singapore means that we are in the same time zone as WA and thus able to bring good news to everyone whenever its out, just like this State Priority Occupation List release & the WA website update.

Hope the SMP allows you to join to cat. 2 priority processing too. We are all hoping for that. We have tried applying for job with a few employers but all of them require us to be PR or OZ citizen. That rules us out totally...this is the problem faced by many of us in trying to find employer sponsorship. That's why we are relying on State Sponsorship to grant us the PR before we even have a chance to be shortlisted for a job in WA.

There's a slight change in WA website info status. Its seems that whatever WA had wanted to update has been done and now its awaiting the green light from DIAC to publish their WA's SMP.

Hi Watson, no worries. We need mutual assurance and support in this long drawn battle for our visas. Indeed, this is the wonder of the forum where the lastest info and insider news are shared by those who happen to chance upon it or actively hunt for it! :jiggy:

Is it looking imminent do you think?

I do hope it is imminent. However, i sense that WA is ready but DIAC isn't. All it takes is for DIAC to give the green light & WA can immediately publish the SMP. The Federal side seems to be busy with the imminent election instead.

Hi Rachel,

Thank god you wrote the above statement, I thought that myself and dragsterwish were the only two people who remembered what they said. I thought that we were going round the twist.

I think something special will happen this week with regards to WA SS existing applications.
