Hey all,

My wife & I have recently moved to GC and are looking to meet some mates for food, drinks and a laugh! I'm a Yorkshire-man (32) and my wife is a bonnie scot (29), our interests include social drinks, jet skiing and generally having a good laugh.

I know Otley I use to live around Idle/Thackley area before moving to East Yorkshire 3 years ago. We are getting very excited but also a bit scared!!! I visited the GC several years ago sure Surfers hasn't changed much...bet its still a massive backpacker haven.

We are going to be in and around Robina/Varsity Lakes/Burleigh Heads....my OH job is located in Robina. Did you guys already have jobs to go out to? Where abouts have you settled? Thanks for the offer of further info will hold you to that and will defo meet up when we get there.

Hi Guy's,

Just reading your posts and wondering if any meet ups have been organized?? I am 31 and my husband is 29 - no kids yet! We immigrated out here just over 2 years ago from Guernsey and we would love to make some more friends!!

Hey Dazzleme

Where abouts have you guys settled? I am moving to the GC with my girlfriend end of January 2011 and am looking to make some new friends. Has it been difficult to meet people? Any top tips you can offer on starting a new social life would be greatly appreciated. If your not too far away would be happy to meet up for a drink and chat.

Hi ya,

Yes, would love to meet up for a drink and a chat!

My husband and I live in Shailer Park, half way between Surfers and Brisbane so it's not to far! I used to commute down to Surfers everyday for work ... eeekk! Broadbeach has some really nice outside cafes - when are you landing??

It's always difficult leaving your friends behind and trying to find new ones - we've found this. But maybe it's our age bracket, we don't go out clubbing ect and don't have kids so finding places to meet people besides work has proved more difficult. We've made a small group of friends - in fact some are coming around to celebrate New Years!!! And I'm sure hangovers to follow Saturday!! :)

What made you guy's decide on the Gold Coast?? Do you guy's have family in Oz?? What do you guy's do for work??

Must dash -

Cheery,

Sarah

Ps - Hopefully by the time you get here the rain will have stopped - It's been terrible weather!!!

Hi,

Just to remind everyone that Brisbane and QLD have their own sister site to PIO and you may find more members on there who are like minded and would like to meet up. If you have never visited Brits In Brisbane then here is the link...

BritsinBrisbane: Queensland Australia Migration & Expat Forum

and there is a link at the bottom of this page to all the sister sites of PIO.

Hi we are in Jacobs Well, which is north end of the GC.

I'm 35, my wife is 30 and we have two boys aged 2 and 4. We are also originally from Yorkshire (Bingley in Bradford) and moved to the GC just over a year ago. By the way, does anyone else from Yorkshire keep getting asked if you are Irish?

Anyway - We enjoy going to the beach, beers, BBQs, family days out, fishing (well I do anyway) and most importantly, a good chat and a laugh without having to speak slowly so people understand your accent (see above!).

Please let us know if anyones planning a get together, or simply PM me if you want to meet up.

I'm from Dewsbury and get asked if I'm Scottish, Irish and even Welsh on a regular basis. One guy even asked where in Liverpool i was from !!!

That sounds great.

Have you guys been to the Fox and Hounds then (or anyone else)? We've passed it loads of times on the way up to the mountains, but never been in. Do you know if it's child friendly as we have two little'uns aged 2 & 4.
