Hi everyone,

Myself and my girlfriend (24 and 23, respectively) have recently moved to Perth from the UK. We love it here but the problem is we have found it difficult to meet new people. We are fun, laid back and always up for a laugh so we're not really sure why...

Does anyone know of any ways of meeting new people or are there any pommy gatherings in the Perth area?

Any advice/help etc would be greatly appreciated!!

Pete

Yeah we are finding Perth somewhat different from the UK, it has both its pro's and cons! We are living in Subi at the moment!

So yeah it would be good to meet some new people.

We are starting to wonder whether we have big signs over our heads saying "stay away" or something! Australians seem quite uptight and not that easy to get a long with!

Yeh they sometimes take dislikes to us brits for many reasons!! You are best off meeting people on here they all tend to be on the same wave lengh (ish)!! You will meet some nice aussies in time. Subi's a nice area close to everthing really.

We found it hard in Canada for the same reasons. we joined a few clubs. OH joined a local footie team and i went to a few aerobics classes. I also found days out to the park with the kids got me talking to other mums there on there own, but it took months before anyone invited me in for a coffee or out for a drink etc.

Dont do what i did and give up, thats how we ended up home because we missed our social lives and having a mate to go shopping with or have a moan about the OH and kids etc

Definitely find some friends on here to start off with, there will be loads in the same boat as you

I hope things work out for you

Hi, Pete!

Just read you post and decided to drop a line.

I`ve been living in Perth for 8 months. I moved here to pursue my PhD and I am looking to meet new people to hang out, have fun, go to the beach, shopping,...

I live in South Perth and I like to chill out sometimes, on a bar, pub and go dancing!

But I also like a calm and lazy day at the beach or at the park.

Hope to hear from you,

S.

Hey Pete

We our heading to Perth ourselves in May.

We have spent the last 10 months travelling around South America and SE Asia.

Before our travels we were living in Melbourne before for 3 years but have decided to head to Perth for the better climate and beaches.

We both and enjoy going out for dinner, BBQ’s, general socialising and a few beers.

Give us a shout if you both want to catch up when we arrive.

Cheers

Dan & Sarah

Hay Pete, me (27) and my husband (32) have recently moved to Scarborough - been here around 1 month now. Definitely up for meeting some people - we've been to the local pub a couple of times but, as you say, seems a bit tricky to break the ice! Have only just registered on this site as a way of finding out what's going on in Pom community and hopefully meet like-minded people.

I'm just about to check whether there's anything going on in Perth this weekend. Maybe there'll be something for the Wedding?! HAAA. Not that we're Roaylists or anything (don't want to put you off!!)

Be great to try and hook up at some point?

Cheers - jo

We found joining our local surf club was brilliant. Always something going on, great for the kids, cheap beer, great views from the bar, good way to keep fit as there are always people of all ages and abilities doing different training. Once we had our Bronze Medallion we get to use the gym if we want or any club equipment. Family membership for the whole year was around $250. All surf clubs along the coast usually have the bars open Friday nights at least and you could go in as a visitor and ask for a look around. I know if you came into our club one of the members would be pleased to show you round and tell you what's on.

Plenty of gyms, pools, bowling clubs, tennis clubs, sailing clubs around too. Most of them would welcome new members and it's a great way of meeting people and getting a hobby at the same time.

My kids have both grown up here and have a great group of friends. It's hard to replace the friends you make whilst growing up and there probably isn't the same bond when you meet people later on in life, but there are plenty of friendly people around. Just a matter of finding the ones with the same interests.

Good luck.

We're moving to Perth next week and will be looking to meet people. Initially living in Shenton Park but on the house hunt as soon as we land! Any meetups with similar couples would be great.
