Guest m1ller
Simple question for you good folk: If I'm in Oz on a twelve month 676 tourist visa am I allowed to look for work and get sponsored on a 457 while in the country? Seems to be the easiest way to get out there and find work if so... Thanks! M1ller
Ozmaniac
You can apply for a 457 while in the country on a 676 but ONLY if your 676 doesn't have a No Further Stay condition 8503 attached. It seems that many 12 month 676s are issued with 8503s and if you get an 8503, I think it's just about impossible to have it waived. There is no way to know in advance if an 8503 will be imposed and no way of preventing the imposition in the first place.
Guest m1ller
Thanks for that. Is there any specific reason why the No Further Stay stipulation is placed on the visa? Or is it quite arbitrary? I'd hate to think I'd be refused the chance to stay longer for no apparent reason!
Ozmaniac
I doubt if it's arbitrary but I'm afraid I don't know what the jdecision to impose one would be based on.
