jimmyskinner
On contacting Singapore airlines this morning concerning allowed baggage when emigrating, they said 40kg if you hold a unstamped unused visa which allows perminent stay in oz.Does this mean we cannot have the allowance on a 457 visa:confused::confused:
Guest
PR gets you 40kg if unstamped/flying out to validate. Once its been stamped or you've vaildated you don't get it again. Its a one off deal. Emigrating people may be, but if it ain't on a PR its not permanent and so the extra baggage allowance doesn't apply. Some on other visas have asked for extra allowance over the 20kg and have been given an extra 5kg as a sign of goodwill. However its not something they have to do. Also with fuel prices like they are they may not continue doing this. Other airlines certainly don't. FWIW Emirates have a higher baggage allowance from the off, 30kg, so you may want to consider flying with them if an extra 10kg per adult will help (most other airlines its 20-23kg) http://www.emirates.com/uk/english/plan_book/essential_information/baggages/baggages.aspx Personally whenever we go over we've never taken more than 20 or so kilos and have managed for a month clothing wise just fine (with access to a washing machine and ironing board). If you plan for the season you really can manage ok. Plus buy things like toiletries once there so no need to pack shampoo and stuff.
