Guest littlesarah
That is St Francis of Assisi, who gave up his rich playboy lifestyle in order to live in poverty. He is one of the patron saints of Italy, as well as patron saint of animals, and is most often depicted with an animal. Many Catholic and Anglican churches hold services in which animals are blessed on St Francis' feast day. When I was in primary school, we had to recite various prayers during assembly (different prayers on different days), and the prayer of St Francis of Assisi was always one of my favourites.
