28yr old Englishman looking to make new friends in Sydney

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone.

I'm a 28 year old accountant that has literally just arrived in Sydney from Sheffield and at the moment I don't know many people. I'm looking to meet people interested in meals/drinks/outdoor activities in order to expand my social circle and fill my free time.

I arrived on Saturday and initially had to check into a hostel in Kings Cross (all the hotels were booked out for St Paddys day). Needless to say I didnt last long there and threw myself at the mercy of the accommodation specialist at work (on my first day!). Seeing how distressed I was and how little sleep I had managed to catch up on, she arranged to me to move to a lovely cheap little hotel in Kirribilli that I would recommend to anyone.

I am looking for rented accommodation now and I like Kirribilli so much I think it will be my first choice.

Anyway, I really don't know too many people and I'm not all that great and putting myself 'out-there', so if any of you fancy a drink or if there is a larger meet being arranged, I really would appreciate you getting in touch.

Thanks.

Neil

Hi Both

Thats brilliant - how about we all meet up over the weekend? Maybe Friday night? It would be really great to meet some new people!

I'm in Kirribilli on the north side of the harbour, but I'm happy to meet anywhere as the trains are easy to my place.

Thanks.

Hi Neil,

Me and my partner (30 and 32) will be arriving Sydney mid June and looking at temp accommodation for 2 weeks whilst we find a rental. Can you give me the name of the B&B in Kirribilli? As soon as we arrive, we'll drop you a post!

Hi Guys

Its called the Glenferrie Lodge, Ill warn you, its a shared bathroom/shower, but its clean, its cheap, its comfy, and its ceasy to get everywhere is Sydney from Kirribilli.

Also, 2 weeks to find a rental?! unless you're sharing or using a relocation agent, I would say expect at least 5/6 weeks. The competition for rentals is nuts. Ive listened to people tell me they go to an open house with the application filled in, slip the rental agent $100 and then pay $25-50 more per week in rent than they were asking! Crazy I know.

You might want to look at Gumtree or Easyroommate and consider moving into a shared place initially.

Good luck with everything and congrats on the move!

Thanks for the tips. Looking forward to moving but not the stress of getting a rental!

Hi Neil and others,

I am a 28 year old aussie girl who was living in London and now back and missing the UK...Hoping to move to the city in the next few weeks. I work in North Sydney atm. Would love to meet some English folk for a drink/ meal. How is your accommodation situation going and do you have a steady group you meet? Not sure how to private message on here but I am sure I could work it out if I get a reply first.

Hi Neil

Heading to Sydney in early June. Whats the job market like at the moment for Accountants?

Cheers

Well the job market is general is not too positive but from what I can tell, if you get yourself with a good agency you should find yourself working fairly quickly. It may not be a permanent role initially but at least there is work out there.

Hope that helps.

Neil

Hi, please take a look at the subject, 'Sydney Meet Up'. I am trying to get together a group of PIO posters to meet on Saturday 14th July in Sydney. If you're interested then add your name to the list of people coming, hope to see you there.

Hi guys,

Im a 26 year-old accountant just arrived in Sydney. Working on George street in the CBD and got a short term house share in Coogee.

Know almost no one other than my work colleagues and new flatmate, so would be great to meet a few UK guys over here!

Give me a shout if anyone wants to meet up, go for a beer, see a bit of Sydney etc.

Cheers,

Jake

Hi all,

I'm 28 and moved from London to Sydney a couple of months ago now. I know that this thread is a little old but I was wondering if you have any plans for meeting up for drinks in the city, I'm keen to meet some new people and expand my circle of friends outside of housemates and work.

Hey Guys

Send me a private message with your numbers and I'll arrange a get together one night. I have to confess, work has kept me occupied over the last few months but now I'm getting into it a bit more I would dearly love some new friends out here.

Thanks

Neil

Guest First time Down Under

Hey, so I guess you guys met already this weekend, right?? If you're meeting up again sometime soon and have space for another newbie I'd love to come along :) I just landed in Sydney just less than a week ago, so am just finding my feet, so to speak. I know just one person here right now, and am totally up for meeting new people :)

Drop me a line if anyone fancies a beer or a coffee one day :)

Cheers!
